One of the largest of the major seven seas.

Extending from the Pillars of Hercules at Gibralter to Tel Aviv near the Nile River and the Bosphorus to the east. The sea is a haven from the turbulent and capricious Atlantic and lacks the tidal complications that can make diving elsewhere a problem.

Notable threats to this sea include cross-colonisation of plants of animals from the Red Sea. Dense commercial shipping traffic for a relatively small sea area also is a problem.
