Offshore Welfare facilities -

The Good

The Internet (Four terminals) is located in the galley and the non-smokers lounge. The connection is good but can run a little slower than DSL speed.
The galley is quite large and the food is pleasant, well prepared and cooked. The upper level bunks are equiped with Playstation 2 per bunk! Additionally a 'Satellite TV' is installed into each bunk with personal headphone so there is no disturbing the other occupant.
A big screen TV is located in the recreational non-smoking lounge. The smokers lounge also has a big screen TV. There are two telephones available for personal calls to the mainland.
The Bond sells duty free goods.

The Bad

One of the two duty medics that are based here can be quite unfriendly despite his often self proclaimed slogan 'The caring face of the North Sea.'
The accommodation is 2 person bunks with an attached washing / shower area that is shared with the ajoining bunk. Unfortunately the rooms are small and cramped, especially on the upper levels of the accm. module. A TV / DVD player is also installed along with a telephone in the lower levels of the accom module.
No gym.
The two personal telephones are both located in 'public areas' that is to say the non-smokers lounge and the galley respectively thus privacy is limited for speaking freely.

Work Area Welfare - The current OIM has a liberal welfare policy and he has currently unlocked all production area telephones for personal phone calls! The cleaning regime in the locker room is zealously stuck to and as a result access to the locker room (where the toilets and smokers room is also) can be restricted as the stewards chain off the doorways!

Platform Emergency Drills - Evident and carried out weekly (usually on the week-end). The platform also carries out lifeboat awareness training.

Overview - Located in the North Sea this oil platform is within sight of one or two other platforms (which include the AUK Platform) The platform was constructed in the late 1970s. As at the end of 2006 a major overhaul of the accommodation modules facilities was in progress, this should eventually address the shortcomings of some of the welfare facilities mentioned.

The oil company 'Talisman Energy' is the owner and operator of this platform. The primary contracting company that provides personnel for the oil platform is Petrofac.

OPR Rating - 6.0 / 10. To submit your additional review of the platform click here.
